We use premium hotels that are unique expressions of the region. Often they’ve had a previous life as a monastery or a castle, but in every case they offer an exceptionally comfortable stay.
These are stylish 4-star properties that offer a casual and comfortable stay. Often without a 24-hour concierge or room service, they tend to be smaller family-run hotels that are perfect for the region.
“I can’t say I really ‘work out,’ but I’m in good shape and am relatively active.”
“I enjoy a good walk or ride, and feel comfortable while on the move.”
“I get moving at least once a week, and don’t mind a little sweat.”
“I get moving a few times per week and enjoy some exertion.”
“I want to feel invigorated each day and going hard is how I like to do that.”
Stroll From Salzburg to Munich
When wishing someone goodbye in standard German you’d say Aufwiedersehen, which means “may we meet again”. In southern Bavaria and the area surrounding Salzburg, people say Pfüati. Say this to a German-speaker living 100 miles north of Munich and they will quickly dissapear! The exceptionally strong local dialect along the northern edge of the Alps is not the only thing that is alive and well. Local traditions – be it communication, clothing, cuisine or community – are like holy cows. They are cherished and maintained with an intensity that is rare in this day and age. Upon arriving, forget the standard Hello and try a joyful Hawediäre. But only if you’re talking to one person. If you’re addressing two or more, say Griàsaichgodbeianand. A tongue twister that’ll warrant you an invitation to a beer. A large one.
