Explore the "Island of the Gods"
Bali crept into people’s imagination, after a hiatus of over a hundred years or so, back in the 1970s and we arrived shortly after with a trip that took us through jungle, across mountains and along sandy beaches. After an exile of over 20 years we are thrilled to be back, resurrecting our previous itinerary with the odd modification or two, and of course the inclusion of the island of Lombok to our “Island of Gods” itinerary.

Ride in the shadow of Mount Batur today with views across what is the largest crater lake in Bali, Lake Batur. After coffee and traditional Balinese cakes with our friends the Wayans we’ll continue on past orange grove and tea plantation, gradually descending, passing temple and shrine as we do.
Head out on foot from the center of Ubud to the rice paddies that dominate the countryside. Learn about the age old secrets of Subak, participate in a silversmithing workshop and witness wood carving first hand over a cup of tea.
Head east this morning into the foothills of Mount Agung. Cycle through an idyllic landscape pausing to sample the intriguing sounding snake fruit and rice wine. Enjoy the hotel's amenities this afternoon.
Hike from the walled village of Tenganan to the village of Kastala. On the way we will pass traditional Balinese village life and we will even cross a sacred river on foot! Lunch is with our good friend Penelope who teaches us the nuances of Balinese cuisine at her cooking school.
Board our private speedboat to cross the Lombok Strait, and enjoy a spectacular ride along the Lombok coast, lined with sweeping bays and craggy cliffs. The ride ends at the hotel, arriving with time to indulge in a massage or simply sit back and soak in the views.
Embark on a tranquil journey through the Gili islands. Cruise on a traditional outrigger boat and witness all types of marine life before lunch in Gili Trawangan. Tonight, we spend our last evening together in grand style at a traditional royal feast – a fitting way to end your Balinese journey!
After breakfast we’ll drive to the airport in Lombok before flying back to Bali, in time to make onward connections home or elsewhere!
Welcome to paradise.
